What is Board Wars?
Board Wars is a tabletop board gaming convention in Merrill, Wisconsin. Many of you might have seen us around town gaming on Thursdays and you’re always welcome to join in the fun. Our goal is to share our love of gaming with the community so that more people can learn to enjoy gaming the way we do. Nothing brings people together quite like games do and Board Wars is the perfect place to play!
Any and all money earned will be put towards this convention and the next one, which will hopefully make your next gaming experience with us even better!
You can check out any of our games for free or bring your own to play. Board Wars has a library of over 700 games to choose from, so don’t worry about not having anything to play! You can view our list of games here: Board Wars Game Library.
The checkout process is simple. You can choose any of our games for free and just have to leave your driver’s license with us until you bring the game back. We trust you, but some of the games are from our group’s personal collections, so temporarily keeping your license allows us to have more games at hand without anyone being worried.
Teachers are available for many of the games. We’ll have light and fast games as well as heavy games if you want to spend a few hours playing one. The goal is to have games that fit almost anyone’s play style, so grab some friends and join us for a day full of gaming!
Scheduled Game Demos
If open gaming isn’t your style, you might be interested in some of our game demos. We’ll be demoing different games for you every few hours.
We’ll have a schedule posted once the event gets closer, but our goal is to have a few highly anticipated games mixed in with some classics.
Prizes will be given away randomly throughout the day, so make sure to attend! Once the convention is closer, we’ll have more specifics.
Tournaments have a $5 entry fee and prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners. So far, Board Wars has two tournaments planned: X-Wing and Warhammer 40k. Each round will go no longer than 60 minutes.
Star Wars X-Wing: Players must bring all components needed to play X-Wing, including one squad to use throughout the tournament. A squad cannot exceed 100 points.
Warhammer 40k: Players should form 1000 point armies.
The Goblin Workshop will also be running a Magic the Gathering Ixalan draft at 2pm. That is a $10 entry fee.
Role Playing Games
A 5th edition Dragonlance campaign will be run with pre-created characters for you to choose from. Six players can join.
Five, one hour, mini adventures will also be run, which are great for newcomers to RPG. 2-7 players can join each mini adventure which will be part of the Adventurer’s League.
Also, if anyone would like to run another RPG, the more the merrier! Please contact [email protected]
If you have games you’d like to sell or trade, bring them to Board Wars and find a buyer! Our goal is to link sellers and buyers together, which can be difficult sometimes on your own.
During Board Wars, you’ll have two options of selling games: auctioning them or trading them. The auction will begin at noon, but you can drop your games off starting at 10:00 AM. The auction ends at 5:00 PM. We will require a $1 fee for any game lots placed on the auction table.
To enter the auction, please print the provided form and bring it with you, Board Wars Silent Auction Form, or we will have some available at the convention as well.
If you’d like to trade your games instead, you can make personal deals with anyone at the convention.
If you’d like to volunteer, we’d be grateful for the extra help! Please email [email protected] or message our Facebook page and let us know what you’d like to volunteer for.
We’re looking for people who can carry in games before the event starts, people who are confident teaching games to anyone in the open gaming area if they need it, or anyone who wants to run an event of some kind.
We appreciate any and all help you can give us. Thank you.
